Das Buch präsentiert anhand der Fotos einige der wichtigsten Fotografen, die in den 1960er Jahren die wichtigsten Musiker der (meist) britischen Popmusik dokumentierten. Es gibt sehr viele, teils unbekannte und interessante Fotos von den BEATLES. Weitere Musiker sind Cliff Richard, The Kinks, The Rolling Stones, Dave Clark Five, Lulu, Bob Dylan, Dusty Springfield, Led Zeppelin, T-Rex, The Who und viele andere.
 
BEATLES TO BOWIE – THE 60S EXPOSED dokumentiert aber auch die in den Jahren von Swinging London entstandene Kunst der Fotografen Fiona Adams, David Bailey, Michael Cooper, Dezo Hoffmann, Gered Mankowitz, Jean-Marie Perier, Philip Townsend und Robert Whitaker. Mit etwa 300 Fotos von über 70 Musikern wird hauptsächlich die Arbeit von sechs Fotografen „aufgeblättert“.
 
Das Buch BEATLES TO BOWIE – THE 60S EXPOSED erschien zur gleichnamigen Ausstellung in der National Portrait Gallery (London), dort präsentiert vom 15. Oktober 2009 bis zum 24 January 2010; weitere Termine der Ausstellung: 6. Februar bis 18. April 2010 in der Laing Art Gallery (Newcastle-upon-Tyne) und 8. Mai bis 5. September 2010 im Norwich Castle Museum (Norwich, Großbritannien).
