On January 12^th 1964, the night after finishing a 16–night run at London’s Finsbury Park Astoria, the Beatles made their 2^nd appearance on the prestigious Sunday Night At The London Palladium TV show performing a five-song set. The following day they flew to Paris and on the 14^th, they were on stage again playing a warm-up show at the Cinéma Cyrano in Versailles, ahead of an 18-day residency at the Paris Olympia Theatre. Comparing French to English audiences, Paul commented at the time, “In England the audiences are seventy-five percent female. Here, seventy-five percent male. And that’s the main difference, really. Because they still appreciate it, but you don’t get the full noise and the atmosphere of a place. No screams.” The sound quality of the French shows from ORTF radio and TV is excellent, but the London Palladium set, recorded direct off air, is poor.

Januar 1964, in der Nacht nach Beendigung eines 16-tägigen Auftritts im Londoner Finsbury Park Astoria, traten die Beatles zum zweiten Mal in der renommierten Fernsehshow Sunday Night At The London Palladium auf und spielten ein Fünf-Song-Set. Am nächsten Tag flogen sie nach Paris, und am 14. Oktober standen sie erneut auf der Bühne und spielten eine Aufwärmshow im Cinéma Cyrano in Versailles, bevor sie für 18 Tage im Pariser Olympia-Theater auftraten. Paul verglich das französische mit dem englischen Publikum und sagte damals: “In England ist das Publikum zu fünfundsiebzig Prozent weiblich. Hier sind es fünfundsiebzig Prozent Männer. Und das ist der Hauptunterschied, wirklich. Denn sie wissen es immer noch zu schätzen, aber man bekommt nicht den ganzen Lärm und die Atmosphäre eines Ortes mit. Keine Schreie.” Die Tonqualität der französischen Sendungen aus dem ORTF-Radio und -Fernsehen ist ausgezeichnet, aber das Londoner Palladium-Set, das direkt aus der Sendung aufgenommen wurde, ist schlecht.
