1962 – 1969. they recorded over 300 songs together, many becoming historical milestones. When hearing these songs on radio, record, CD or download even, they are the result of usually spending many an hour working in the studio perfecting each track. However to make these songs as polished as they became there were numerous takes, re-takes, mixes and re-mixes. Well, presented on this record are some of the early unpolished and never used versions. I’m A Loser from BEATLES FOR SALE. I Saw Her Standing There, Misery and There’s A Place from the PLEASE PLEASE ME lp. From Me To You and Thank You Girl from the 1963 single. Hold Me Tight from WITH THE BEATLES, and A Hard Day’s Night from the album of the same name. That’s just side one.

Side two continues with What You’re Doing from BEATLES FOR SALE and the single ‘b side’ She’s A Woman. Here too is Love Me Do and P.S. I Love You, their first ever single as the Beatles. At this particular time Ringo was unknown to producer George Martin as he had only just joined the band. When he arrived at the session he was handed a tambourine as Martin had booked session drummer Andy White. Andy White’s version appeared on the PLEASE PLEASE ME album, however presented here is the different version of Love Me Do, used on just the single and on which Ringo did actually play drums.

The song writing partnership of Lennon and McCartney brought us a multitude of famous songs, however there is a ‘one off’ Lennon/Harrison composition on this lp coming from the time they spent learning their art in Hamburg. This unusual instrumental track Cry For A Shadow also kicks off a little ‘spotlight on George’. To Know Her Is To Love Her, Take Good Care Of My Baby and Crying Waiting Hoping all from The Beatles audition for Decca Records. Decca A&R man, Dick Rowe forever to be known as the man who turned The Beatles down. George’s confidence shines through on these recordings considering he is the youngest member of the band. The Decca auditions are one of the few recorded examples of original drummer Pete Best performing with the Beatles.The final track featuring George Don’t Bother Me was his first composition on a Beatles lp WITH THE BEATLES.
